„(…) The intimacy of the marimba sound opens up a very unique sound magic (…)“

„… they merge into an energy, let the marimbas breathe, sing in the dynamics and decay (like the given name Wave) and add something magical to the whole through the movement of bodies, arms and mallets. “
„(…) the spirited ensemble (…) once again showed the diverse dynamic possibilities of the Marimbas.“
„The intimacy of the Marimba opens up completely new sound spaces.“
Oliver Buslau, Rondo Magazine

(…) From the first second of the Allegro from the D minor to the final Allegro of the A Minor Concerto, the percussionists from Austria, Luxembourg, Bulgaria (…) and Japan hold the musical threads firmly in their hands. In comparison to the harpsichord, the music sounds less ethereal, salon and chiselled, but more archaic and more dancing like. The expressive strings of the L’Orfeo baroque orchestra under the direction of Michi Gaigg also contribute unrestrictedly.“

„With a flair for the Music.
Man usually appears to be a decent being who wants to assign every thing on its place. But in art, it is only really exciting when seemingly non-coherent meets each other. On Thursday, at the Brucknerfest, Michi Gaigg’s L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra and „The Wave Quartet“ of Bogdan Bacanu met each other to perform Bach. Bach’s Harpsichord concertos with dancing mallets and whirling bows.
(…) Bogdan Bacanu and his Wave Quartet with Christoph Sietzen, Emiko Uchiyama and Vladi Petrov as well as the L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra transfer in an outstanding way, the dynamics across the entire range, fine – sounding and clearly marking the lines of the old music style and increased the plausibility of the Intermediate. There was no show effect at all, just the dresscode: black for the L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra, white or white and red for the marimba players, but an honest piece of music in an attempt to gain new visions from the old sounds. (…) An evening of pure contrasts that did not evoke a black-and-white picture, or a fade-out gray-in-gray, but evoked a colorful, life-filled music.
(…) in that way, incredibly diverse, highly virtuosic novelties developed, which expanded the sound properly, without destroying the Baroque balance. Rather, the much softer sound of the Marimbas blended perfectly with the strings, blurred the sometimes harsh border between solo and orchestra, and reduced the clarity of the harpsichord in favor of emotional warmth.“

„The acoustic conditions in the historic casting hall of Sayner Hütte are outstanding, at least when The Wave Marimba Quartet plays. (…)
Tango on four Marimbas? Yes, it works. And it works because it is played with such enthusiasm, rhythmic verve, and skill. The explosive impulses of the tango lie almost in the nature of the wooden instruments. The rough chord of Piazzolla’s Bandoneon and guitar finds its equivalent in the sharp attack of 16 Marimbamallets in eight hands. The melancholy sobbing of the tango takes on the form of violently starting, then transforms to a delicate tremolo.
Later on, the South America will return to the baroque roots of European art. The reason why the quartet was founded in 2008 was to play Johann Sebastian Bach’s concerto for two harpsichords in C major, which was transformed into an equally serious performance and delightful listening experience from the four Marimba musicians.“

„With original compositions and unique arrangements, Sietzen ignites a firework of sonic variety and virtuoso percussion witchcraft that can even fascinate listeners who hitherto approached new music with reserve,“ writes Werner Theurich about the CD „Attraction“ by Christoph Sietzen.
Since the release of the young percussionist’s CD back in June, it has received enthusiastic praise. „Christoph Sietzen is a talent of the century,“ comments the Stuttgarter Zeitung. „An exceptional talent of the century – there is no lack of superlatives for the percussionist Christoph Sietzen,” a portrait in RBB Kulturradio enthused.
And the media coverage continues to resound: In SR 2 Kultur, the release was selected as CD of the week. Christoph Sietzen was also invited to interviews with the television broadcasters BR Fernsehenand NDR Kultur. The trade journals also celebrate the musician, as can be seen for example in RONDO magazine: „This young man masters the rare art of being able to sing on his percussion instruments – bringing about a revolution for the marimbaphone.“
